expanding circles

sharing
Into the second week of the circle project, the children were cutting up the circles they had painted last week, into quarters. They then swapped pieces with each other and began to construct new circles.

Circles

drawing around objects to create the circles
This week we were exploring colour and shape...in particular circles. This was the first week of a series of 2D workshops, working towards a finished collaborative piece.

The classes will lead the direction of the workshops for the following sessions, thinking about different processes and techniques that they could use to explore the circle theme.

New term - new ideas!

Beautifully observed drawing by one of our younger artists
The new term of Balfron ArtWorks kicked off on the 1st of September with some beautiful drawings and paintings of leaves and flowers from the garden.

Working together on large paper the classes explored form, texture, colour and pattern.
Collaborative leaf painting
We have added an extra class this term, bringing us up to four classes each Saturday morning. It's been good to see old faces as well as welcoming lots of new ones too!

Pictures from our exhibition

ArtWorks annual exhibition took place yesterday at the McLintock Hall, Balfron.  There was work from throughout the year on display, including prints, sculptures, paintings, drawings created with ink, others with charcoal.

The children enjoyed showing their work to their parents and other friends and family.

There were also a number of free art activities to try out and an Art + Craft Fair at the same time.  There were over twelve talented artists and makers promoting or selling their wares.

Dawn and I would like to say thank you to everyone who took part, particularly the children for producing such wonderfully inspiring art work over the past year.

ArtWorks is now finished for the summer holidays, although we may get round to posting more about this year's activities over the summer.

See you all again on September the first for the new session, when we have added an extra class due to popular demand.  Happy holidays everyone!

Black and white paper cuts

This week, we looked at paper cuts.  We were amazed at how skillful the artists were to cut such intricate patterns.  We all had a go a creating a paper cut monster, using white paper with dark green rather than black.

Some of the groups got started on transferring this idea onto fabric, which we will be continuing next week.

Outdoor drawing

Our older class have been interested in working outdoors for a while now and last Saturday we got our chance once the rain had eventually cleared. Working with different papers and drawing materials the class explored the site colours and textures through drawings, rubbings and photography.

Feeling inspired....

Last Saturday we took a break from finishing our models to do some painting. Looking at postcards of paintings, the children chose one that inspired them and painted their interpretation of it.
